Not long ago, while I was busy promoting Shatta Wale's new single featuring Tekno, titled #incoming, I received numerous tags from the Bhim Nation fraternity. I was so focused on getting the song to the top that I wasn’t distracted.Let me quickly address this issue and do a throwback. I, Friday Born Kofi, still stand by my words that Afro Dancehall is meaningless. Based on the definition given, how do you want to classify it? Is it a genre of music or something else? Dancehall itself is considered a sub-genre with reggae as its major genre.
If you want to define it as a sub-genre, where do you place it? Under Afrobeats or Dancehall? Since it’s fusion of Afrobeats and Dancehall? Now, regarding the main flyer that caused the issue, it's a playlist curated by Michael on Audiomack. The playlist is defined as "Bashment Bangers from across the continent," and the genre is listed as Afrosounds. Bhim natives, what was all the fuss about?A playlist is not synonymous with genres. I could curate a playlist and name it Afro-Reggae, but that doesn't make it a genre. So if you're rallying behind claims of Afro-reggae being a genre, you may be mistaken.
Let's not forget how all of a sudden, your favorite artist is busy creating titles for himself after Shatta Wale was used as the artwork for the playlist. No one is here to fight over something he can't even define.
