 Dr Ernest Kwamina Addison

Governor of Bank of Ghana Dr Ernest Kwamina Addison was appointed by the President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in April 2017. Mr. Addison has spent over 25 years working in the public service with a focus on Economic Development, Monetary Policy Formulation and Implementation and Macroeconomic Surveillance. 

With his appointment, he has demonstrated strong leadership, management and policy skills within the Bank and throughout the financial sector.

Under his leadership, the Bank of Ghana has gained several plaudits in the pursuit of prudent monetary policies to achieve price stability, as well as the comprehensive financial sector reforms in 2017 to 2019. The reforms has since strengthened governance and supervisory frameworks, and repositioned the financial sector to undertake its primary role of financial intermediation. 


Further, Mr. Addison’s tenure of office as governor was extended in 2021, for another four years and his successes have won him and the Bank of Ghana many international and domestic awards, including the best Central Bank Governor of the year in Sub-Saharan Africa by the Global Markets and the best Central Bank of the year by the Central Banking Awards.

He is currently a Co-chair, of the Financial Stability Board (FSB).
