Kennedy Agyapong, the current Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to securing the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer position for the upcoming 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Agyapong, one of four contenders seeking the party's leadership, has declared his determination to stand firm and not bow down to any rival.
The NPP is gearing up to select its flagbearer on November 4, a decision that will undoubtedly shape the party's future direction.
Taking to his platform on X (formerly Twitter), Agyapong made his intentions clear, stating, “I'm not going to step down for anybody.”
In a separate video circulating online, he stressed the importance of allowing the contest to run its course before engaging in post-election discussions.
He remarked, “Coming together will depend on how we conduct this November 4 election, Looking at the way they treated on the 26th last month (during the Super Delegates voting), I felt it wasn't proper.
The NPP's presidential primaries are expected to be highly competitive, with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerging as the frontrunner.
Agyapong's determination comes in the aftermath of Alan Kyerematen, another contender for the flagbearer position, withdrawing from the race.
Kyerematen cited allegations of intimidation and procedural inequities in the lead-up to the Special Delegates Conference. Kyerematen secured third place in the Super Delegates voting, trailing behind Dr. Bawumia and Mr. Agyapong with 95 votes from among over 900 delegates.
