Ghana placed in pot 2 for 2023 AFCON draw

 



Ghana could face the host nation of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ivory Coast, defending champions Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria or Morocco in the group stage after being placed in pot 2 of the draw for the tournament.

These teams based on the latest African ranking have been placed in pot 1 and are open to facing a team from each of the four pots released.

The Black Stars have been placed together with Nigeria, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali and Burkina Faso in pot 2 and would have t prepare diligently to face tougher opponents in from pot 1.

The pots were released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Thursday, September 21 ahead of the final draw which is set to take place during the next international break on October 12.

The rest of the 24 teams for the tournament are South Africa, Cape Verde, Mauritania, Zambia, Equatorial Guinea and Mauritania who are placed in pot 3 with Guinea Bissau, Angola, Gambia, Namibia, Mozambique and Tanzania in pot 4.

In a group of six named A to F, all 24 teams will be split with each group consisting of four countries, one each from the various pots at the final draw.

The 34th edition of the tournament, which Ivory Coast will host for the second time after the previous time was in 1984, will take place between January 13 and February 11, 2024.
